Troop 631 Activities in 2010
In January 2010 Troop 631 had their annual Cabin Campout. At the cabin campout, boys in the troop work on their partial merit badges and other merit badges in Babler State Park.
In February 2010, Troop 631 has the Presidents Day outing where the troop usually goes to a Historic military base. This year we went to a couple places like the USS. Alabama, (a battleship in Pensacola, FL,) The National Naval Aviation Museum, also in Pensacola, FL..
In March 2010, Troop 631 has their annual Spaghetti Supper. It’s the fundraiser that we use to fund the Presidents day outing. We also have the Crossover outing, where we take our new scouts to Beaumont and like the Cabin Campout, we sleep in cabins. We do team building activities and the new scouts learn their patrols.
In April 2010, Troop 631 went to Springfield, Illinois and learned about Abraham Lincoln’s life and hometown, and other things. It rained a lot.
In May 2010, Troop 631 had their Spring Court of Honor, where the scouts get their earned Merit Badge patches and Rank patches. (Tenderfoot, 2nd class, 1st class, etc.) They also have their May Outing, where the troop went to Beaumont and shot rifles and shotguns.
In June 2010, Scouts can work for service hours at the Cub Scout day camp. Another event is Summer Camp at S-F scout ranch where the troop goes out for a week, camping in canvas tents and doing merit badges.
In July 2010, Troop 631 has Summer Camp. (It actually carries over.) They also have another carry-over event, called Northern Tier. It is a High Adventure activity.
In August 2010, Troop 631 has their Summer Court of Honor where again, they are presented with their earned merit badge patches and Rank patches.
In September 2010, Troop 631 has their September outing, where the troop goes to a Mizzou game and around Mizzou’s campus. Also in September: Tipi training, Shawnee Lodge Fall Reunion, and a parent meeting.
In October 2010, the troop did their High ropes, Low ropes challenge course outing, where scouts can choose between a High ropes challenge, (a course in the trees,) or, a low ropes course. (A series of activities, all involving teamwork.)
In November 2010, the troop went to Shiloh, Tennessee and learned about the battle of Shiloh, and along with that, they hiked 14 miles. In addition to that, they placed out bags for people to fill with food for Scouting for Food.
In December 2010, Troop 631 had their Mystery outing, where a Mystery Location is chosen. This year we had a lock-in at a YMCA, then we went to a local park and cooked breakfast, and after that we went to one of the troop’s families’ house and stayed there for the night.
Troop 631 Activities in 2009
In January 2009, Troop 631 had their annual Cabin Campout, where all the scouts worked on merit badges and elected their Senior Patrol Leader, Ben Wheeler.
In February 2009, Troop 631 had their Presidents Day Outing, where the scouts went to Chicago and went snowboarding/ skiing and stayed in heated rooms and also went to the Sears Tower.
In March 2009, the troop welcomed their new scouts into the troop with some cabin camping and team building activities, also known as the Crossover outing.
In April 2009, Troop 631 went backpacking which, for those who don’t know, is basically when you shove a whole ton of stuff into a backpack and hike around with it and find your campsite and camp there, and then hike back.
In May 2009, Troop 631 had their High ropes, Low ropes challenge course at S-F Scout Ranch, just like the one in 2010 where they went through different challenges.
In June 2009, Troop 631 went to scout camp and did merit badges, just like the one in 2010 where the Troop went to S-F Scout Ranch and camped there for a week.
In July 2009, Troop 631 went to Summer Camp, or summer camp carried over to July.
In August 2009, Troop 631 had their summer Court Of Honor, where the scouts are presented with their merit badges and rank advancements.
In September 2009, Troop 631 went canoeing for a weekend where they all got in canoes and canoed to their campsite, ate, slept, then canoed back.
In October 2009, There was a Camporee where all of these troops gathered together and did activities at S-F scout ranch. Troop 631 was the host troop, and organized and ran the activities.
In November 2009, The troop went to Beaumont and camped there for the weekend.
In December 2009, Troop 631 went caving and explored a cave called Marengo cave, a very wet cave to be exact.
Activities in 2011
In January 2011, Troop 631 went to Babler State Park to work on Merit Badges. The whole weekend, scouts worked on pre- chosen merit badges for their rank advancements and Eagle Palms.
In February 2011, the troop went to Washington D.C, Virginia to tour and learn about this very historic place. They went to Ford's Theatre, The White House, The Bureau of Printing and engraving, and went to see the Constitution of the United States of America.
In March 2011, Troop 631 went to Beaumont for their Crossover outing to welcome and assign patrols to the new Scouts into Troop 631 with team activities and other things.
